Emily Jane King
Vocal Coach and Actor
My name is Emily Jane King and I am a vocal coach, actor, and musical artist based in Treaty One Territory, Winnipeg, MB.
I trained at Studio 58 in Vancouver, and my work has taken me across BC, to Toronto, and back to Winnipeg.
I’m passionate about accessible arts education and empowerment through creative self-expression
I studied performance and voice pedagogy at Studio 58 (including an additional 4 month intensive apprenticing under Head of Voice Brad Gibson) and graduated on the Dean’s Honour Roll. I have over 10 years of training in dance and singing, and I hold my Advanced Theory Rudiments and Grade 8 certificate in piano with the Royal Conservatory of Music.
My recent theatre credits include performing as “Waabishkizi” in White Girls in Moccasins (the Frank Theatre), “The Collector” in Mx (The Cultch), and “Sara Jean” in Infinity (Volcano Theatre/The Cultch).
My film credits include acting in Squeegee (short film, Morgan Krantz Productions) and The Pinkertons (series, Buffalo Gal Pictures).
As an instructor for voice and drama, I have taught for outstanding programs such as Vancouver Film School, Viva Voce Speech Arts Studio, RealWheels Acting Academy, the Arts Club Actors Intensive, BC Thespian Festival, Gateway Theatre Academy, and Manitoba Theatre for Young People. I have worked with a huge variety of clients and students, including professional actors, singers, English-learners, business professionals, and more.
I’ve written a number of short form plays with my long-distance collaborator Keauna Miller, including Highway One (produced by Little Lion Theatre in London, UK); Tethered (part of Rumble Theatre’s Lupercalia Festival, and developed with Angelica Schwartz and Stephanie Wong); and the digital sketch piece Just Trust Us (National Theatre School’s ArtApart program).
I am dedicated to teaching and creating with kindness, openness, patience, and specificity.
